Last Day For Discounted United International Awards And Hyatt Diamond Upgrades

a blue sign with white letters

United Airlines has had a combination of a software glitch and fare sale on international partner awards going on for a while now, and after acknowledging in publicly, they’ve said that it will end tonight.  I was pretty disappointed when these award price increases were announced.  It was painful to consider that it would cost 140,000 miles to fly Lufthansa business class roundtrip to Europe, which is a much better product than United.

I’m a value junkie, and when the “price” of these awards went from 100,000 roundtrip to 140K, it was a tough pill to swallow for me.  In terms of relative value, Lufthansa is definitely 20% better than United (United roundtrip to Europe will cost you 115k), but the 40% increase is steep.  If you’ve been putting off ticketing a trip, today is your last day, unless they didn’t actually fix the error.

Today is also the last day to redeem your Hyatt Diamond suite upgrades from 2014.  If you requalified for Diamond, you’ll receive a new set tomorrow.  But, if you have any left, they can be applied to a stay in the future and as long as you don’t make any changes, you should be able to enjoy the upgrade after the expiration date.
