IHG Recycles Their Big Win Promotion For The Beginning Of 2014

IHG is out with their promo for the first quarter of 2014.  It’s essentially a reboot of the promo they just ran, the Big Win.  I was offered 71,400 points total if I maxed out my bonus, which is almost exactly what I was offered this fall.

You do need to register for the promo, which is easy to do by clicking here.

There’s already a multiple page thread on Milepoint discussing the options that various folks have gotten.

Here are the earning opportunities presented to me:

Stay 5 Nights To Earn 8,400 Points

Stay At 3 Different IHG Brands For 17,600 Points

Book  1 Flexible Rate With Breakfast To Earn 2,000 Points

Stay 2 Saturday Nights For 8,400 Points

Book 2 Stays Using IHG Mobile App To Earn 4,800 Points

Stay At 2 Holiday Inn Hotels For 8,000  Points (note, this requirement might quietly change for you, see this post detailing it)

Stay At 2 Holiday Inn Express Hotels To Earn 4,800 Points

Complete 6 of 7 Offers To Earn 21,000 Points

Win Promotion

At a minimum, I would need to have 5 one-night stays to max out my promo.  That’s a bit more cumbersome than last time where I’d only have to do 2 stays for my 5 nights.  But, it still represents about 14,000 bonus points per night if I max out.

I think it’s good to remember that not all points are created equal though.  A top category property with IHG requires a 50,000 point redemption, whereas Hyatt’s top category requires 22,000 points.  In a real life example, the Intercontinental Times Square in Manhattan would cost you 50,000 IHG points whereas the Andaz 5th Avenue (Hyatt) would cost you 22,000.

I think this is the type of promo that would energize loyal IHG members, but not likely lure someone to move business they already planned to put elsewhere.  It’s pretty solid if you’re an IHG customer that can hit all your offers.
