New ANA Award Chart, Delta’s New “Sale”, And Insight Into Google Flights. Travel News I Missed Last Week

It was a crazy week of travel for me, so I got fairly far behind on my blog reading.  Here’s a few of the key posts I missed from around the world of travel this week. Google Flights is answering any and all questions.  I’ll be interested to see how deep they go, and I applaud them for doing it.  I was nervous when they took over ITA Matrix a few years ago, my favorite travel tool.  Results-oriented, I was right, but I wish I was wrong.  There have been lots of […]

Upgrades Coming For Your US Airways MasterCard, A Review Of Quantum Of The Seas, Dynamic Award Pricing From United And More Travel News

Folks holding the US Airways MasterCard (like me) are still waiting for information on how to upgrade from the AAdvantage Aviator Red card to Silver.  It’s been reported that the Silver card will include the ability to earn EQMs alongside the Citi Executive card, so it’s on my radar.  View From The Wing tells us it’s still going to be a while.  First, you have to get your new card, and then they have to open up the ability to switch.  As he notes, I’m sure they’ll make those offers […]

A Second FREE Ticket To The San Diego Frequent Traveler University March 6th-8th!

ETA:  Winner selected in the comments!  Thanks for everyone who participated. Apparently, giving away tickets to the advanced session of Frequent Traveler University is a popular thing this week.  I’ve had another friend ask me to give their ticket away.  While they can’t make it to the Frequent Traveler University in San Diego March 6th-8th, you can win their ticket!  This may sound a bit cheesy, but it’s pretty cool to see folks helping a fellow mile junkie out. My first giveaway ends tomorrow night.  I’ll go ahead and draw […]

Is What Delta Did Really That Evil?

Gary over at View From The Wing has staked out the position that Delta’s decision to remove their award charts may be the single worst thing to occur in frequent flyer-dom.  Ever. I mean, it’s not like he compares them to the lady that drowned the dog in an airport recently when she wasn’t allowed to board her flight with it.  But, it’s a very stark position.  And, I’m not 100% sure he’s right. Now, some of this is tongue-in-cheek.  I’m not a Delta fan by any stretch.  And, I […]

Getting Caught Up On What’s New In The Travel World

Our family just got back from a great 10-day vacation in Italy and I’m getting caught up.  There were a bunch of things I either missed or didn’t have time to touch base with all of you on.  You’ll find a list of them below, with my thoughts: British Airways fuel surcharges are one of the very few major bummers I encounter with oneworld awards, especially given the “friendly” partner pricing United announced last year.  View From The Wing to the rescue with a solution to help.  Do this today! […]

Starpoint Sale. Should You Buy?

Courtesy of View From The Wing, Starwood Preferred Guest is selling Starpoints at up to a 25% discount right now. Like all new things, I came to the hobby of collecting miles and points with a ton of excitement and not enough information.  But, I did have a goal.  This was probably a decade ago or better and I really wanted lifetime Gold status on American Airlines.  The problem?  I didn’t fly a whole heck of a lot. I learned about Starwood and the ultra-cool ability to transfer points to […]

An Awesome Discount on Starwood Awards at Top Properties

There’s nothing more a miles junkie like me enjoys more than a great value for his points.  And, Starwood has provided just that.  View From The Wing has details on a huge discount on some of Starwood Preferred Guest’s properties. There are some truly awesome properties on here, and I’m a bit sad that I don’t think I’ll be able to squeeze in a visit to one of these.  I’ve had the good fortune to enjoy the Westin Diplomat, the Westin Grand Cayman and the St. Regis Bal Harbour. Being […]

Quick Shots: Things That You Should See

View From The Wing and a bunch of Boarding Area bloggers are giving away a seat on StarMegaDo4.  You’ve only got until Sunday, October 7th, so hurry up and enter.  I’ve participated in 3 MegaDos so far, and each one has been an adventure I’ll never forget. Wandering Aramean has a good piece on the benefits of Passbook.  I’ve already used Passbook a number of times and I’m already seeing the benefits. Mommy Points is one of the judges for a 65,000 Hyatt point giveaway.  65,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points […]
