2 Tickets To Italy For $1,000 And Dumpster Diving. The Best of The Rest For Monday, August 17th 2015

The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length.  On a daily basis, I try to keep track of roughly 100 different blogs (try being the operative word) that have interesting things for you and I to learn from.  Some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.   This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens […]

$400 Round-Trip Flights From New York To Milan!

It’s been one heck of a year for fare sales and award seat availability, and we’re only about 3 weeks in!  First, there were ultra-cheap tickets to tons of places, then last night there was tons of US Airways business class inventory. Now, The Flight Deal is reporting that both United and Emirates are offering $404 tickets from New York to Milan.  The fares are good through the end of March, so not a ton of time.  But, a fabulous deal to a destination high on my list! If you […]

The Travel Game Is A Journey. The Destinations Along The Way Are Just Part Of The Fun, Part 1

I’ve been playing the travel game, collecting miles and points, for well over a decade now.  While it’s gotten harder to find all the perfect flights, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.  I’ve been planning a family trip this summer to Italy and it came together to include some pretty special elements for my family and I.  As the final pieces came into place this weekend I thought I would share the story.  Parts of this are special just for our family or for an airline geek like […]

American Airlines Adds Service Between Miami and Milan

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for American Airlines’ new service between Miami and Milan.  This one strikes me as a bit odd. It’s being serviced by a 767-300, and the flight times are reasonable.  The Miami departure is at 5:55pm and arrives in Milan at 9:35 in the morning the following day.  Milan to Miami is an 11:25am departure and a 4:40pm arrival.  Not a ton of time for the plane to be on the ground in Miami, but probably not an issue. The press releases about this new route […]

Emirates Dipping Its Toe In The US-European Trans-Atlantic Market

Middle East carriers like Emirates, Etihad and Qatar think big.  That’s a rare trait in the airline industry, IMO.  Lufthansa has done a great job in Europe of building a massive network and lots of connections to places people want and need to go. Emirates and other Gulf carriers have done the same for the Middle East and connect key places like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.  They placed the largest order of Airbus A380s in the world.  Their order for A380s is bigger than the next 5 […]
