Lance Armstrong

LIVESTRONG Takes Another Hit Today. Time For Me To Step Up.

I make no secret of my support for LIVESTRONG, even despite the bad press over the past year surrounding Lance’s admission of doping. Today was a tough day for LIVESTRONG as Nike publicized it’s decision to discontinue the LIVESTRONG line of gear they produce.  That’s been a significant chunk of LIVESTRONG’s revenue.  I’m not sure what happens now.  I’m happy to see Nike continuing to financially support LIVESTRONG, though I wonder how long that will continue in light of the recent news.  I’d like to think they’ll continue to support […]

My Thoughts On Lance And LIVESTRONG

Every time I think I’m done writing about Lance Armstrong and how he affects LIVESTRONG, the story takes another turn.  When I wrote down my thoughts about Lance after the USADA report came out in October, it felt definitive at the time.  Time has a way of changing things on you, and I sit her today in front of my keyboard feeling the need to write about this. I wanted to make sure I got my thoughts down before the interview aired, though there has now been confirmation in the […]

It’s About Lance

I posted a few days ago about the recent developments of Lance Armstrong and LIVESTRONG.  Again, I thought it would be my last post. I was wrong. I’m sure mine is a polarizing position. One I might have shied away from a few days ago, though unlikely. As the media attention has ratcheted up about Lance there have been reasons for people to turn away. Even I had said to myself and others, “It’s not about Lance. It’s about the fight against cancer.”  That’s an easy answer to a tough […]

Who Wins? I’m Not Sure.

I had decided I wasn’t going to write about the Lance Armstrong/USADA battle, as I’m decidedly biased.  As I’ve written in the past, here and here, I’ve always been on Lance’s side.  I was saddened when he gave up the USADA fight a few weeks ago, and had kinda decided that was my last post on the topic. But, after this morning’s news of Lance resigning from the LIVESTRONG board and the severing of his contract by Nike I felt I needed to post something if only for people to […]

LIVESTRONG Headquarters is a Pretty Cool Place

In my haste to write about the big donation to LIVESTRONG I had forgotten the pictures I took of the LIVESTRONG HQ. Walking in, we were greeted by a newspaper box filled with LIVESTRONG bands. With the impending death of the newspaper industry, it’s good to see someone putting one of these relics to use.  No idea what landfill the other 6 million will end up in. This is the custom bike that was made to commemorate one of Lance’s wins in the Tour de France.  The bike’s tires have spokes […]

Today Was a Win In The Fight Against Cancer

I’m on my way back from Austin, Texas.  Randy Petersen and I showed up at LIVESTRONG headquarters today to discuss a bigger relationship between Milepoint and LIVESTRONG. We had in tow with us a check for $25,000 from the members of Milepoint.  The meeting went well, and the folks at LIVESTRONG were pretty surprised to see the check. While we were there (as well as shortly after our departure), the good folks at LIVESTRONG were pretty active in social media talking about our donation. ChrisB’s Twitter Pic @jsavalon’s quick thoughts […]

Another Shot At Lance Armstrong

The WSJ is reporting that the USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) has brought charges against Lance Armstrong. I really did think it was over when the US government decided not to move forward with charges.  Heck, I even wrote about it. I guess there are no 3-legged dogs to kick or any olympic hopefuls to monitor.  Instead, Lance is now banned from racing in triathlons for fun. I really do hope this finally dies at some point.  I get the point that they (whoever the hell they is, I lost […]
