Cheap Flights To Europe, A Great New Booking Tool And Don’t Lick The Walls. Really

The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length. Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others. This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.

American Airlines Makes Sabre Official, United Gets Rid Of Cleveland As A Hub. Things I Find Interesting On Sunday, February 2nd, 2014

American Airlines has officially announced it will stick with the reservation system that American has used for ages, Sabre.  This is not a terrible shock as Doug has publicly stated he learned from the last time he tried to use the smaller airlines’ reservation system (when Doug’s America West took over US Airways).  That transition was so bad that it actually forced the combined airline to ground the fleet, making for a lot of angry customers. It’s a good early indicator that Doug Parker is going to try hard not […]

A Surprise Test Of United Airlines’ New Wi-Fi Service

After a quiet remembrance of 9/11 yesterday, it’s back to talking about the world of travel.  Incidentally, yesterday was a very interesting travel day.  I ended up on three different flights so got to see a lot of heightened awareness everywhere I went. My first two flights of the day were on American Airlines.  I’ve grown so accustomed to having wi-fi on their flights and it still amazes me how big a difference it makes being able to stay connected and get work done in flight.  I actually got a […]

The Brighter Side Of Dulles Airport

After making my kids pancakes this morning, I settled in to check e-mail.  The first e-mail I read this morning was a post on View From the Wing entitled, “Washington Dulles is a Very Bad Airport”.  Gary and I agree on most things, and we even agree on some of the things in his post.  But, on whole, I think he’s off-target on my home airport. Citing some of his specific points: Not only is it a good 45 minute drive from downtown, but once you’re there you’re not even […]
