Check Your Starwood Account! How Much Do Hackers Value Your Starpoints?

Starwood Preferred Guest is the most recent loyalty program to announce that members have had their accounts hacked, following on the heels of hacks at American Airlines and United Airlines. According to this Consumer Affairs article, a “large number” of accounts have been compromised. Everyone has a different idea of what a large number is and I haven’t found any estimates reported. But, I did get an email from SPG yesterday suggesting I change my password. I disregarded it, as I use a program that creates complex passwords and change […]

Check Your American Airlines AAdvantage Account; Passwords Stolen

News via View From the Wing tells us that United Airlines wasn’t the only airline to be compromised recently. American Airlines is reporting that this was a data hack of their systems, rather that these credentials were stolen elsewhere and used to access AAdvantage accounts. American says they’re proactively reaching out to affected members, but I never like leaving such things for others to rectify. The best thing to do is to login to your AAdvantage account and change your password. Shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes. As I […]

One Of My Favorite Tools Got Useful Again! AwardWallet Can Track Your American Airlines Account

It can be a bear to keep track of the dozens of programs I have miles in.  Add to that extra accounts for the rest of my family members and I’ve got a part-time job on my hands.  Award Wallet is one of my favorite tools for keeping track of miles and points.  In the beginning, it would automatically update your balances by logging into your various accounts for you. Alas, that went by the wayside when the airlines decided they didn’t like Award Wallet accessing accounts for their customers. […]

LaunchPoint! Frequent Travelers Vote On New Innovations In The Travel Industry

The travel industry is one that I generally refer to as “the industry that technology forgot”.  While there are a handful of useful applications that have popped up in the travel space, there really hasn’t been any significant amount of disruption.  Milepoint is working with a host of very prestigious sponsors to help fund $50,000 in cash, in-kind prizes and various awards while companies vie for this $50,000 to help fund their travel-themed start-up. At the recent Frequent Traveler University in Mclean, VA, 10 companies made their pitch to the […]

News And Notes For Monday, December 10th

Wandering Aramean reports that United has joined the club in shutting off aggregation sites like Award Wallet.  Just more piling on for some of my favorite services.  Award Wallet is a big part of being able to manage all the different accounts our family has.  While I’m disappointed that the major airlines are chipping away at it’s effectiveness I’m hopeful there will be a resolution that satisfies the airlines while providing their customers with this integral service. American Airlines is teasing us about their new paint job.  View From the […]
