$100 Free At Amazon For American Express Cardholders Still Working!

Holding the right credit cards can save you lots of money on travel or earn you cash back.  Every once in a while, valuable offers come up that aren’t necessarily about travel and cash back.  This $100 offer on Amazon right now fits that category.

I saw it first discussed on Doctor of Credit a few days ago.  And, as with many deals, it was better at the very beginning.  The original offer gave a 20% discount on any purchase where you paid at least part of it with American Express Membership Rewards points.  That meant you could buy $500 in gift cards (at the beginning, Amazon gift cards counted) for $400 plus 1 Membership Rewards point.

Amazon and AMEX are trying to encourage folks to link their American Express account to their Amazon account and pay with points.  It’s important to note that this only works with American Express cards that earn Membership Rewards, not other cards like Starwood’s or Hilton’s version of AMEX.

Not only does the offer appear to still be working, some folks are reporting that they’ve been able to redeem the offer twice!  My friend Jen from Deals We Like reported exactly that.  And, I’m still seeing notes on social media about people successfully scoring this offer.

The Final Two Pennies

If you have an American Express card that earns Membership Rewards, don’t sleep on this.  Find a few hundred dollars in gift cards and/or some items you might need around the home and get a 20% discount!  If you haven’t linked your Amazon and American Express account, you’ll also need to do that.

  1. Appears to be dead this morning. I’ve purchased a few items and gift cards over the last few days, but had not maxed out, and today the 20% is not appearing.
