Hyatt Announces First Promo Of 2018, Night After Night

Hyatt has announced their first promotion for 2018.  It’s called More Bonus Points, Night After Night.  And, it offers…..more bonus points, night after night (see what I did there).

Starting today and through May 15, 2018, you can earn bonus points per night at all Hyatt hotels:

  • 500 points per night at Hyatt Place and Hyatt House.
  • 1,000 points per night at all other Hyatt properties.
  • There are no exclusions I can see, all properties are eligible.
  • All of the participating MGM Resorts in Las Vegas count as well.

There is a limit of 25,000 bonus points that can be earned during the promotion period.

You’ll need to register for the promotion to be eligible.  It’s free, quick and easy to do.  So, do it now before you forget.  You don’t want to be stuck not earning bonus points for a stay because you didn’t take 30 seconds now.

How Does It Stack Up?

SPG’s first promotion of the year offers double Starpoints on your second stay and 500 bonus Starpoints for weekend stays.  I value Starpoints a bit higher than Hyatt points.  However, I think the Hyatt promo is better overall.  In the narrow circumstance where you have multiple short stays and your SPG rate is high or you have a lot of eligible F&B charges, combined with a weekend stay, double points would be more valuable.  At lower rates, the flat 500 or 1,000 points offered by Hyatt per night are likely the better bet.

You can read the FAQ and T&C for full details.

The Final Two Pennies

I really like this promo for a number of reasons.  It doesn’t play any games with “participating properties” like SPG does.  All Hyatt hotels appear eligible.  Frequent travelers like simplicity.  Well, this frequent traveler definitely does.  I don’t want to dig through a list of hotels to find out who’s participating.

There’s no exclusion on your first stay like the SPG Promo.  You’ll start earning 500 or 1,000 points per night on your very first stay.  I also love that the MGM hotels in Las Vegas are participating.  I end up there frequently on business.  There are plenty of cheap rates at those hotels where (even with the resort fees) an additional 1,000 points a night will be a nice reward.  Given my travel schedule over the next few months, I think there’s a reasonable shot I max out this promotion.

Over the last few years, Hyatt has traditionally offered less promotions than their competitors.  In this case, they’ve sat out the first month and a half of 2018.  And, since they’re just announcing this promotion today, they’ll likely lose out on bookings that folks have already made for the next few weeks.  That’s unfortunate, since I think Hyatt brings more value to the table with this promotion.

  1. What are 25,000 points worth in free nights? Im a Hilton guy and 25,000 doesnt sound like more than a free night in HH points.

    1. I stay at a brand new Hyatt House / Place in Charleston, SC quite a bit (new grand baby) and it goes for 12,000 per night.
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki goes for 20,000

    2. Steve, the numbers of points needed for a room vary greatly between Hilton and Hyatt. The most expensive Hyatt hotels are 30,000 points a night. And, there are only something like a couple dozen at that level. But, a “good” middle of the road hotel is 10,000-15,000 points a night. There are lots of these in the Hyatt program. There are even some pretty great properties in that same price range.
