52 Places To Visit In 2018

I’m always looking for new places to add to my travel bucket list.  Try as I might to cross things off, the list tends to get longer each year.  I read a fair number of blogs just to see what they have to say about far away places, giving me a better idea of whether to add them to my list.  And, each year I read the NY Times’ annual 52 places to visit article.

This year’s list features a bunch of names you’ve heard of.  And, as usual, there’s a decent handful of places that are new to me.  Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.

New Orleans turns 300 years old.  That’s pretty darn cool.  I’ve always loved the food in New Orleans.  Don’t necessarily need the crowds in the streets.

The Caribbean ends up on the list, with a reminder that tourism will help speed recovery.  The hurricanes this year devastated many islands.  Who knows how many thousands of people are still trying to rebuild?  That’s a good enough reason for me to put it on our list.

I’ve never heard of Basilicata, but it’s on my list now.  What a beautiful place.

Cities you might gloss over in the US like Cincinnati, Buffalo and Baltimore end up on the list. They’re having something of a renaissance.

Heck, even Disney Springs ends up on the list.  You might not recognize the name.  I still refer to it as Downtown Disney.  It’s the retail and restaurant section of Disney World, located at the edge of the Parks.  Talk about a renaissance!  The area looks nothing like it used to.  There are some really great restaurants down there now.

The Final Two Pennies

There are a handful of places on the list that I’ve never heard of.  Route of Parks, Chile.  Rotorua (that’s in New Zealand).  Kuelap.

Oh, and Gansu, China is a really beautiful place.

For the record, I’ve been to #1, 4, 8, 15, 25, 26, 30, 37, 41, 44 and 49.

As you can imagine, there are a ton of places on this list that I want to tackle.

Hope you have a great travel year planned for 2018!

How many of these places have you visited?  How many are on your bucket list?

  1. Buffalo. LOL. I’ve been there, and the wings are over rated. As for the city, it’s ok; but let’s face it, it’s all about Niagara Falls Canada. That’s about 30 minutes north of BUF.

  2. Love the list!

I was just in New Orleans for the first time over Christmas weekend, and I’m going to Colombia next week.

That takes care of #1 and #2. Gotta get cracking on the next 50.

  3. The true question is how many of those places left on your list also have donuts available. I’ve made it to 13 of the spots mentioned, but lots of the others are on my short list for planning.
