Google Maps Will Remind You When It’s Time To Get Off The Train

Google Maps is my go-to solution for navigating in new places.  Heck, I even use it on roads I’m familiar as a gauge of how bad traffic is.  Google continues to lead the way on innovation when it comes to a map app for my needs.

According to Point Me To The Plane, it appears Google’s next update for their map app will add some cool features for mass transit users.

The new release will give you guidance on where to go when switching trains.  And, it will give you a nudge when you’re getting close to your stop.  I think that’s an incredibly useful feature, especially for new cities I travel to.  It won’t work in some subway systems, although I’ve been surprised the places I travel to that have good connectivity underground.

The Final Two Pennies

Trains and subways are my preferred method of travel in most new cities I visit.  I don’t have to worry about traffic and the maps/timetables are generally pretty accurate.  Couple that with the affordable nature of most mass transit and I find myself on a lot of trains.  Google Maps’ new focus on helping me take the train is a welcome addition.

  1. This is an awesome upgrade!  We try to use public transportation whenever we travel so we can get a better feel for what it is like to be a local.  Having Google Maps notify us when it’s time to get off the train in an unfamiliar location is excellent innovation.
