First Class Flight Attendants Having Sex For Money?

First class business travel on international flights can be quite luxurious.  I’ve flown first class on a long international flight a handful of times.  Sumptuous meals, exquisite champagne abound.  Sex for hire from flight attendants?  It hasn’t been offered on my menu just yet.

Yet, that’s what one chatty, anonymous flight attendant claims is happening.  She “tells all” to the New York Post.  Now, before we get too deep, let’s consider the source.  If you’re not familiar with the New York Post, it’s not exactly the pillar of honesty and purity in the newspaper world.  The Hotelion, who originally brought this to my attention, is a bit skeptical as well.

Our anonymous flight attendant has a number of salacious claims:

“A stewardess was caught getting [business] on board as a prostitute. She was caught business-carding it — trying to drum up [business] on a flight.”

This is one of the claims I find less likely.  The right pieces are there.  First class cabins on long-haul flights are traditionally male passengers, presumably with money at their disposal.  Still, I just can’t see a flight attendant propositioning passengers to meet them later in a sex-for-money scheme.

When meals have been dished out and there is a quiet point in the flight, the cabin crew worker alleges, she regularly hears of staff performing sex acts on each other in the crew rest area.

And during one risky romp, a pilot was said to have had sex with an air hostess mid-flight in the back of the cockpit.

The cabin crew worker revealed: “On a 747 [jet,] the pilots have bunkbeds at the back of the cockpit and the captain was seeing a stewardess and there were two pilots taking over for the captain to have a break.”

Okay, these seem completely believable to me.  I can imagine crew members who date each other.  I started my professional career in the hotel industry.  It was very commonplace for staff members to date.  We worked long, exhausting hours, often dealing with stressful situations.  Relationships are bound to form when the only people you interact with on a daily basis are co-workers.  Heck, my wife Michelle and I started dating when we both worked at a hotel together.

Is it such a stretch for me to believe airline crew members do the same?  Not at all.  Having sex in the crew rest areas?  I’m sure it happens.  The only thing I’d add is that crew rest areas aren’t particularly luxurious.  I would think a bit of imagination (and flexibility) might be needed.

“We had one guy who was really horrible to my friend. When he was asleep, we got his jacket out and we unpicked the seams at the end of his jacket on his sleeves. We mashed up some crab and prawns and then put them in the sleeves of the jacket. You couldn’t really feel them.”

“Then we sewed them up. We knew he was going to Barbados, so it was going to be hot and would stink.”

That’s just plain mean.  I guess I could see someone making up a story like this.  But, it’s pretty specific.  Passengers shouldn’t be pigs.  But, man.

First Class Flight Attendants Having Sex For Money

The Final Two Pennies

I got an odd mental image (and an odd chuckle) from The Hotelion with the suggestion of someone trying this on a domestic US narrow-body.  This isn’t the first flight attendant “tell-all” I’ve seen.  I think the thing that rings most true is her comments on how things have calmed down quite a bit nowadays.  I’d be surprised if things like this were happening on a widespread basis.  Heck, passengers and crew are so frequently enraged, how do they have time to stop and think about sex?

  1. Wow, I’ve heard of joining the mile high club, but it is usually newlyweds or young couples taking the risk.  That there would be blatant solicitation by a flight attendant is beyond comprehension.
