Hyatt Brings Back One Of My Favorite Promos, A Discount On Award Redemptions!

a person holding a credit card

Hyatt is running one of my favorite promos again this summer.  I love choice, flexibility.  Too many hotel promotions try to encourage a change in behavior.  I’d just prefer a reward for loyalty.

Hyatt’s promotion is only for folks who hold the Hyatt co-branded credit card.  That’s literally the only material condition of the promo.  Well, okay.  You need to register as well.  Do that now.

Hyatt will give all co-branded credit cardholders a 10% rebate on all points you redeem between June 1st and September 5th, 2017.  That’s:

  • Award rooms
  • Points & cash reservations
  • Suite upgrades
  • Dining and spa reservations

Let’s just say you book a week away this summer for a family vacation and redeem 100,000 points.  Hyatt will rebate you 10,000 points.

My Favorite Part

Unlike many other promotions, you don’t have to jump through hoops.  There’s no need to cancel and rebook your reservations.  I gave a talk a month ago at a loyalty conference and talked about programs reducing friction with their members.  This is a perfect example of that.

I can remember a conversation I had with Jeff Zidell, who runs Hyatt Gold Passport, a number of years ago. It was not long after the rollout of their co-branded credit card with Chase.  He was asked what other ways Hyatt Gold Passport was going to leverage their loyalty program to generate revenue.

His answer was that they view Gold Passport as a loyalty program, and they think about each decision/initiative as a way to build loyalty.  Can you imagine that?  A loyalty program that’s actually building loyalty.

It still remains one of the most honest, unvarnished answers I’ve heard in a while, mostly because they’ve stuck to this philosophy.

Just in case you wanted to read through the T&C, here they are:

  1. Good question by @Perryplatypus

I have another, what’s the best publicly available promo to apply for this Hyatt CC? At Chase branch?

    1. Kalboz, I think the best offer is just 2 free nights right now. There used to be an offer in the booking process that also came with a statement credit ($75?) but I haven’t seen it in a while.
