A First Look At United Airlines Polaris International Business Class

United Polaris Business Class

It’s December 1st, which means United rolled out the soft elements of their new Polaris business class service today.  It’ll be quite a while for all the elements to debut, including the seats.  But, we’re supposed to see new food, blankets, etc. starting today.

They announced the Polaris changes a few months ago.  I was able to get an early sneak peek thanks to my best friend David.  He’s the one that flew internationally today.  It was on a 767-400, and he was nice enough to shoot me a few pictures of the experience.

He said the staff welcomed him to “The New Polaris Business Class”, though it may have been an underwhelming welcome, in that there’s no new seats just yet.

He was greeted by the new blankets as well as a new friend that was included for the first flight.  I don’t think he’ll be a guest on future trips.  But, my daughter sure thought he was cute.

I haven’t flown United business class since earlier in the year, so I don’t know if the wine list is new.  These were not amongst the choices I was offered on our flight to Rome this summer.  The beer and spirit choices look similar to what I can recall from past flights.

I can’t recall if I’ve had the Joseph Perrier champagne anytime recently.  It looks like it’s a $30 retail price per bottle, which is on par with the Nicolas Feuillatte they were pouring at the debut event.  I have no experience with the other wines.

The wine list does call out a service I believe is new, where you can have a Bloody Mary made at your seat (or a mimosa).

I didn’t get a chance to review the food choices, but Ben from One Mile at a Time had someone who tried the new transcon menu today.

Quiet Beginning

It’s a bit of an underwhelming start.  I know United wanted to make a big splash by drastically upgrading their business class product.  Until they have new seats to show off in large quantity, these changes are a small plus, not a huge step.

  1. I rode FRA-ORD today; interesting food selection – I had steak and eggs for breakfast, which weren’t half bad. Weird it started with a salad, though. And I have the stuffed bear, which is a one time deal, apparently.
