The Best Mileage Offer For A Short Car Rental Right Now

a toy car on a map

The best offer I’ve seen lately for 1-day car rentals is a max of 2,750 United Airlines MileagePlus miles if you have Premier Platinum or 1K status.  Even without status you can earn 2,000 miles.

I’d actually forgotten about this one as I got behind a bit on my blog reading.  I planned to write about this before our Columbus Day Disney trip but the sands of time….

Rapid Travel Chai was nice enough to post late last month with the reminder on this solid offer, one that runs until the end of 2016.  I thought this offer was gone for good when it went away in May, but I’m happy to see it back.  The Aeroplan offer he mentions is also a good one, but not a currency I collect.

It’s easy to find on the United Airlines website and there’s a chart of bonus mileage opportunities based on your status.  Even credit cardholders with no status get a bonus.

Best Mileage Offer

Rates for this offer have been solid the last few times I’ve booked it.  It’s one of the pitfalls to watch out for anytime you consider a big mileage offer through an airline.  Sometimes the rates can be horrible.

The only catch (if you can call it that) is I’m pretty sure you need to book these rentals through the United website to get the bonus.  The interface is far from great but the miles do post.

A Nice Chunk Of Miles

As the airlines focus more on revenue, and that generally means fewer miles for lots of folks.  It makes sense to leverage opportunities when they present themselves.  Folks with 1-day rentals should be hitting this offer.  Whether it’s worth it for multi-day rentals depends on your specific situation.  2,750 miles is enough for 10% of a round-trip saver award in the domestic US (or, it used to be before United mucked up their award charts even further last week)

There are some good redemption value for Hertz Gold Plus Rewards points, specifically one-way rental awards.  In the end, though, you can only have so many car rental points, whereas bigger troves of miles and/or points have more value.

+ 1,500 bonus award miles every time you rent a mid-size or larger vehicle

+ An extra 3,000 bonus miles on each of your next two rentals as a MileagePlus Chase Cardmember

To be eligible for this exciting offer, you must book through united.com with your MileagePlus number and use discount code (CDP) 62455 and promotion code (PC) 305023.

But we all know how good United’s IT system is…. YMMV

    1. Kalboz, I’ve had too many wonky issues with Enterprise to rely on them consistently. I’ll price them in various situations, but I find myself booking elsewhere. That being said, thanks for sharing the code with my readers!
