A Look Inside The Luxurious Suites At Park Hyatt Sydney

a cup of coffee on a table by water

Thanks for stopping by to read about my quick trip to Sydney.  I’m trying to do a better job of wrapping these up more quickly so I’m hoping to bang this one out in between family vacations.  Here’s roughly what I expect to cover:

While I was getting checked in to my awesome, upgraded room, I wondered what the actual suites in the hotel looked like.  Anthony, the manager who assisted me with getting checked in, offered to give me a tour of a few available suites on property.  These rooms are truly incredible.  But, before we got to the suites, I was curious about the regular rooms. When we travel as a family, we prefer to have two rooms so we have extra space to spread out.  As a family of 4, we don’t live in one room at home or share one bathroom.  We can usually accomplish this with Diamond Suite Upgrades when staying at a Hyatt.  But, the Park Hyatt Sydney is one of a handful that has an exception in place wherein they don’t participate in the Diamond Suite Upgrade program.

Despite that exception, I got an upgrade to an Opera Deluxe room, which I’d certainly categorize as a suite.  I’ve seen other Diamond members receive a similar upgrade, so I don’t view it as a fluke.

There are a number of standard rooms in the hotel that have an atrium door that can close so that two rooms become one, with a little extra space in the entry way.  This is a great option for families, though pricey given the number of points required for award redemptions.

The standard room comes with one king or two queen beds.  The rooms are spacious, with both a table and some soft seating in the room.  As well, balconies provide more space, at least in the warmer months.  My trip to Sydney occurred in June, which is their “winter”, though it was considerably more temperate there than my hometown of DC.  I was perfectly fine on the balcony during my stay.

A ledge runs most of the length of the room with a flat-screen TV and some drawers for storage.  I really like the design element here.  I’m not one to use a hotel dresser to unpack, though my wife loves to.  There’s plenty of room for me to just park my suitcase on the ledge while she could easily unpack.  There’s also a closet with a full-length mirror for hanging items.

The bathrooms have a double sink, a deep soaking tub and shower area (though I managed not to get a good picture of the tub and shower).

After we viewed the standard rooms we were off to tour the Sydney Suite  (their “Presidential” suite).  For the record, I’ve seen more opulent suites than this (though this was certainly near the top of the rankings), but the thing that struck me as I walked around was how much the suite actually felt like a house or apartment, not a hotel. I could already see the opera house in the background when I entered, so maybe that part isn’t like your standard apartment!

The living room area has two large couches and some soft seating along with a sizable flat screen TV, though I can’t imagine sitting in the room watching TV given how much there is to explore in Sydney.

The desk area is massive and continues the theme of facing the stunning views of the opera house.  It would be awful tough to focus on work, though you’d have plenty of space to do so.

There’s a large dining room table and a pretty well-equipped kitchen.  Again, don’t think I’d be spending much time cooking, but I’ve got to imagine a room service breakfast would be pretty awesome here.

If the weather permitted, though, you’d probably be better off on the quite large balcony eating breakfast.  Similarly, what a great place to host a party in the evening, or watch the sunset quietly with a loved one (ahem, Michelle!).

The bedrooms are equally beautiful, with plenty of room.  A massive walk-in closet and a sauna are part of the package as well.

This beautiful room rents for a mere 25,000 AUD (or just a bit less than $20,000 in USD) over New Year’s, an exquisite place to watch the fireworks, with a 10-day minimum stay.  Gulp!  Surprisingly (unsurprisingly?) there’s a wait list for this room at New Year’s, so you’re not likely to get your chance anytime soon.  Fear not, you can book the room during low season for $14,000 a night, with a 2 night minimum.

The next suite on our list was the Rooftop Suite.  While this room was beautiful as well, it did have a bit more of a hotel feel than stunning home or apartment.  We entered into a spacious living area with multiple couches and a dining room table. A quick turn showed a small, well-equipped kitchen area.

The living room is separated from the bedroom almost entirely by a wall, but you can see it peeking out in this picture.  There’s a sliding door that affords full privacy.  If not, the open door contributes to an open floor plan where the windows let in a ton of natural light.

Stepping out onto the balcony, there was still plenty of space for a dining room table, a few chaise lounges and enough space for a dozen of your friends to have a cocktail party.

The bedroom looks out on the balcony by the chaise lounges, with a view of the city as opposed to the opera house.  That gives way to the bathroom where there’s a massive soaking tub.  From there, a hallway leads you back to the living area.

The next suite was more of a “hospitality suite”, though not the versions I’m accustomed to in the US.  The Park Hyatt refers to this as the Harbour Suite.  There’s a sizable dining area and ample soft seating.  The design makes good use of the curvature of the building to create some pockets of space with spectacular views and a place to have a quiet conversation.

Again, a sizable kitchen area for those looking to entertain.

The bathroom and bedroom feature the same attributes as the other suites, plenty of comfort including a deep soaking tub and soft seating in the bedroom area to relax away from the rest of the space.

The Suite Life

Let’s face it, most of us are never going to be able to spend $15,000 a night for the Sydney Suite.  Hyatt Gold Passport gives access to suites like these using points, but there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to use your points for these aspirational suites.

It was great to spend some time walking through the top floor of the Park Hyatt Sydney.  The suites are all beautiful.  They’d make a great place to spend some time in Sydney.  I really appreciated Anthony’s time showing me around, even if I never end up spending a night in the Sydney Suite.

  1. Oh crap, thanks for the reminder. I’m booked there for next year on C&P just to block a suite and completely forgot this property doesn’t participate so I may switch to all points and just book one night on C&P to get stay credit. Nice suites though.

    1. You’re welcome, Christine! It’s a lovely property. The manager I met with, Anthony, wanted me to share his name in the posts in case readers had any questions or issues he could address during stays. Feel free to reach out to him if you have special requests. Happy to answer any other questions you have.
