Today Only: 2 Valuable AVIS Offers

Today’s Daily Getaways are from AVIS Car Rental.

If you’re new to Daily Getaways, think of this as “Vacations For Real People” (or vacations for normal people).  It’s no secret that I love showing my family the world.  I took my wife and daughter to Paris a few years ago for Valentine’s Day on a long weekend, but we’re just as likely to pile into the car and drive up to HersheyPark.  We prefer to travel to places like Italy and Greece to explore the culture, but those trips aren’t accessible to everyone.

Even though I preach the strategy of earning miles to just about everyone I meet (sorry, for those of you tired of hearing me babble on), most folks aren’t trying to fly First Class in an apartment to the Middle East.  Or pop over to Sydney for a long weekend.  We decided to head down to the Fort Myers area in Florida this year for spring break and were surprised to find at least a dozen of our friends from Virginia had chosen the same destination as us.

Some drove, some flew, none of them stayed at a St. Regis, Ritz or Four Seasons.  For that group, which are the normal folks, Daily Getaways can represent a significant value.  Not all deals will, but there are still plenty of savings to be had. Here are the details on the AVIS offers:

AVIS Chairman’s Club 1-Year Membership For $1,115:

This might seem like a lot of money, but I think it’s a really good value for the right type of traveler.  AVIS has had this offer for as long as I’ve been following Daily Getaways, and it always goes in an instant.  There’s only 15 available.  So, who is this offer right for?  Well, me, for starters.  Hertz has a similar service called Hertz Platinum.

I’ve had Hertz Platinum service for a number of years now.  They offer considerable upgrades as well as a pick-up and drop-off service, where they’ll drop your car off right at the terminal for you and give you a ride back to the airport when you return.  For me, that saves at least 30 minutes every time I rent a car (sometimes as much as an hour).  AVIS didn’t use to offer that level of service.  Recently, AVIS has started to offer a more personalized service that closely mirrors the Hertz service.  Similarly, AVIS offers multiple-category upgrades.  I don’t have a big desire for fancy cars but plenty do.  For folks who are heavy travelers and prefer a much nicer car, it’s easy to get $1,000 in value.  A 2 or 3-category upgrade can easily be worth a few hundred dollars on a longer rental period.

One big difference in the AVIS service is that they specifically note that co-workers, friends, etc can’t rent a car using your benefits, only a spouse or significant other.  Hertz allows me to designate my wife and any of my co-workers, which I view as more valuable.

If you’re interested in this offer, you’ll need to be ready right at 1pm EDT.  It’s possible someone clicks on this offer thinking they’re buying the 1-day certificate, so it’s worth waiting around a few minutes if you don’t get it right at 1pm to see if everyone completes their sale.

1-Day Rental Certificate For $30:

These are good for a one-day rental on any car up to a Premium (Group G).  They’re only good for rentals in the continental US, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Just like last year, these certificates are not valid for rentals in the New York Metro area.

You’re allowed to purchase up to 7 certificates and you’re also allowed to apply up to 7 on any one car rental.

$30 a day is a solid price in a number of markets.  There are only 700 available and I would expect these to go quickly.  Be ready right at 1pm EDT if you’re interested in this offer.  Given that there are 700 available I could certainly see people who don’t complete their purchase due to any number of reasons, so it may be worth hanging out 10 minutes or so and refreshing your screen if you miss these right at 1pm.

I’ve had success with some Daily Getaways offers in the past purchasing them for multiple members of our household (I bought Busch Gardens and SeaWorld tickets in both my name and my wife’s), and you might be able to do that here as well to score more than 7 certificates, though you’ll likely have to be pretty quick.
