Starwood Preferred Guest Brings Back Bonus For Staying At Multiple Brands

One of the things I’ve always liked about Starwood Preferred Guest are the innovative promotions.  While quarterly promotions have thinned out as the economy has improved, SPG still continues to offer interesting promotions.  They’re currently running one right now where you can play a free baseball game as part of their MLB partnership for a chance to win prizes.

While SPG had a promotion last year where you could earn bonus points by visiting multiple brands, I hadn’t paid enough attention to whether they brought it back in 2016.  Last week I was going over my SPG account and noticed this posting to my account:

That made me remember that I actually had read the bonus was back.  I searched and found the One Mile at a Time post from a few weeks ago.  Sure enough, I was served up the same offer:

11,000 Starpoints is a pretty hefty bonus, especially when you consider that the credit card has no bonus categories and the quarterly promos are weaker now than a few years ago. I found out about this late enough in 2015 that I wasn’t able to hit all the brands.  But, this year I’ve already made significant progress:

Some of my progress this year is dumb luck, as the only Le Meridien stay I’ve had in the past few years was Le Meridien Arlington.  A recent stay in Indianapolis checked that box for me, and I picked up the Tribute brand at SLS in Las Vegas (still haven’t written that one up).  I don’t have stays planned at any of the remaining 5 brands I haven’t visited yet this year, but I do have 9 months to try and accomplish it.  I think W and Element are achievable, it’s the other 3 I’m worried about.

I’m not sure if this is targeted, but you should be able to check by logging into your SPG Dashboard.

It’s promos like this that make me sad to see SPG merging with Marriott.  Since Marriott will likely take the lead for the combined brand when it comes to loyalty, I suspect innovative promotions like this will fade over time.
