Cheap Flights To Palm Springs, Marriott Wants To Reward You For Spying On You And American Testing Customer Service Improvements For Flight Delays

a magnifying glass and a telescope on a map

My weekend consisted of watching the Duke Men’s Basketball pull out a really key win at home, getting ready to take my daughter skiing in bone-numbing cold and then kicking off Freddie Awards voting.  Here’s what’s going on in the world of miles and points:

Cheap Flight of the Day: 20% off all Virgin America flights purchased by tonight.  There are also cheap flights to Palm Springs (under $300).

A really solid article about the DCA perimeter rule, Dulles airport and all the entrenched interests that try to keep things the way they are.

American Airlines tries something new, offering free snacks at the gate during delays.  Just a test for now. HT:View From The Wing

Anthem of the Seas is returning to the sea.  Part of me wants to say that’s surprising given some of the reports from the storm it was in last week.  Then I remembered that the ship carries thousands of people, is likely booked to capacity for a public company that has a strong incentive to repair it quickly and return it to service.

Commercial, unrestricted flights between US and Cuba seem right around the corner.

At long last, American’s service from LAX to Tokyo’s Haneda airport kicked off this week.  More Haneda flights may be coming this year, which would mitigate the whole battle between Delta and American.  Not to worry, Delta can fight with Southwest about Dallas Love Field.  Or, everyone about Narita.

Earn a few free hundred points for linking your Marriott Rewards account to your social media feeds.  I know hotel chains and airlines can follow me on social media now, so I’m not sure why this irks me.  But, it kinda does.  That being said, I’d still do almost anything for points.  Just not sure this.

Today’s PSA: Don’t update your United password yet.

It’s not all bad.  United fixed their award calendar.  Still working on the rest of the airline….
