A Quick Look Inside The 2016 United Airlines Global Services Welcome Kit

a pair of cards with a city on it

Unless you’re truly part of the top 1% of the top 1% of fliers (not really a typo), you’ll never see achieve a status like Global Services with United.  It’s an invitation-only level that I’ve never even seen, and I fly a lot.  I was offered the service back in 2012 if I pre-bought $50,ooo worth of United travel.  Alas, I declined.

Thanks to my friend David, we’ve got another peek inside this year’s Global Services kit, with a cool new addition in the luggage tag category.  Here’s a quick spin through what’s in the box, including a reminder of the 787:

That last picture is a good reminder that I’ll have a giveaway shortly for some more beverage vouchers!

In case you’re not familiar with the benefits of Global Services, you can read my full summary on it from last year.  A few highlights:

  • Regional Premier Upgrades (RPUs) on award flights.  Again, more flexibility to make sure you’re sitting up front on domestic flights.
  • Global Premier Upgrades (GPUs) on award flights.  This is a big plus, especially considering that Global Services members will have the ability to clear out of the PN bucket.  That potentially means you can book a saver award ticket to Europe and upgrade to business class with a GPU at no cost (unless there are extra taxes/fees).  That’s a huge plus given the normal revenue restrictions for using GPUs.
  • Exclusive Global Services check-in areas at Chicago O’Hare (ORD), San Francisco (SFO) and Newark (EWR).
  • If the Global Services member is traveling on a paid ticket, they can redeem miles for a saver award in the same cabin of service.

I really like the composite “787-like” luggage tags.  Those are way cool.  It’s neat to see inside the kit that some of the highest spenders get from a major airline.  I doubt I’ll ever qualify for one, so this is the closest I’ll ever get!

  1. It’s interesting see what few can attain through flying and spending. I will never be one of the few….but it’s always nice to dream

  2. Totally random observation: Does David live in the DC area as well? I’m trying to figure out whether they personalized the interior picture based on the location of the member, like they did last year.
