The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about  in length.  Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.   This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.

Cheap Flights Of The Day: $100 flights to Fort Myers, FL if you’re tired of the cold and can fly soon. Most people head to the other coast of Florida, but there’s plenty to do on the West side as well.  Hyatt has a nice property not far from the Fort Myers airport.  Las Vegas is also on sale from BWI for less than $200 (and even cheaper with Spirit).

And, someone is obviously in a humorous mood at United, discounting the route from Portland, OR to Portland, ME in the thick of winter.

There are a few really good auctions ending soon at Luxury Travel Diary, and the prices right now are ridiculously low:

2 nights at a beautiful property in Florence for about $200 (about 150 GBP).

3 nights for 12 people in a 6-bedroom mansion in Wales for about $500.

Norwegian is adding flights from LAX to Paris, plans more trans-Atlantic flights.  I enjoyed my first flight on Norwegian and would definitely consider flying them again, though I’m not sure I’d want to do coach from LAX to Paris.

Have you used Kimpton Hotels’ secret password to get free goodies?  Seriously.

While we’re on the subject of “seriously!”, the folks at Elliott are advocating you contact your congressman to complain about the size of airline seats.

10 ways to save money on your next car rental.

Just a few more weeks until the connector between Terminal 4 and Bradley at LAX opens.  This is great for American Airlines’ travelers.

Cool Giveaway!  2 nights in a luxury cabin at Yosemite.

Hyatt has a nice property in Cambridge, MD that doesn’t get a lot of press.  There’s an offer code right now (CRDT4) that gets you $200 in resort credit per night during any stay 2 nights or longer.  The code seems to inflate the rate more than $100 in the half-dozen searches I tried, but not the full $200.  So, if you’re planning to go and plan to do spa, dining or golf, this is a little discount on that.

  1. Have you ever used the Luxury Travel Diary auction site? It looks like might be fun to try to get a great deal on a vacation. But, I am hesitant to pull the plug and place a bid. Any insight would be appreciated!

    1. Chris, I’ve never won an auction on the site but I know the girl who runs the site. She does it to support charity. I wouldn’t have any hesitation bidding on the auctions.
