Cheap Flights To The Caribbean, Discounted Delta Awards And The Smackdown in Dallas

The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about  in length.  Culled from over 100 blogs/authors I follow, some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.   This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.

Cheap Flights Of The Day: I texted my cousins who live in NY as soon as I saw these sub-$200 tickets to Barbabos.  Not my favorite Caribbean destination, but I’ll “suffer” for that price.  Also, for mileage runners (or folks who have a reason to be in DC or LA), there’s a solid sale going on now for $236 round-trip.  That’s about the lowest you’ll see the fares for that route.

Finally, Norwegian is offering some pretty awesome fares on their routes from LAX to Europe.  Try $300 round-trip.  That’s a long flight in coach, but as I found out recently, their planes really aren’t that bad.

Tons of business class award availability on American to Asia.  Don’t wait to book, I doubt this will be around long.

Emirates will be the latest carrier to bring the A380 to Washington, DC.  I’ve already flown the British Airways version to London and I’ll be looking to catch a flight on Emirates out of my home market at some point.

The judge in the dispute between Dallas, Southwest and Delta gets it right.  Granting Delta a stay of termination on its routes during the dispute (not necessarily sure that’s the right decision), the judge beats up on Dallas for having literally no effective plan to deal with the dispute:

That never happened. “As we now know,” Kinkeade wrote, “the city wholly failed to craft any policy, let alone a clear one, setting forth how the accommodation procedure and process would work in reality.”

Uh, yeah.  And, then some.

Delta is offering reduced award prices for flights to London in economy.

I purchased the winning Powerball ticket for the upcoming $1B+ drawing.  So, when you don’t win, here are some ideas on what to do.

I didn’t realize that one torn page in your passport likely means you’ll need to get a new one.

The 11 greatest miles and points deals ever.  Personally, I would have put dollar coins as their own unique entry in the top 11.

JetBlue Mosaic elite members get really good prices for awards on extra legroom seat upgrades.

I’ve never really been into the reselling game, but some folks really like earning miles this way.  If you’re just getting started (or interested), check this out.

  1. Thanks for including me! I hope you do win the Powerball…if I can’t win, I’d love to at least see someone I know with the winning ticket!
