Win 2 Free Tickets To Recognize Heroes of 9/11 During A Night At The Museum

I’ll never forget.  9/11 is a pit in my stomach that will never go away.  I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of some fundraising efforts on behalf of the Jason Dahl Fund.  The fund is run by a group of strong, purposeful people whose goal is to preserve the memory of Jason Dahl and to support the dreams of young pilots.  They’re hosting a special event at the Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver, Colorado.  I can’t be there for the event but I wanted to do something to help support their fundraising efforts.  So, I’ve gone ahead and purchased 2 tickets for the dinner which I’ll be giving away to one lucky reader.

Here’s a brief description of the event (you can buy tickets here):

The Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund will host a gala event from 6 to 10 pm Friday September 11, 2015 at the Wings over the Rockies Air and Space Museum, Denver, Colorado. The gathering will bring together aviators past, present, and future as the Dahl Fund honors the heroes of 9/11/2001 while awarding the 2015 Jason Dahl scholarship recipients. The venue promises to be a great place for retires, new hires, line pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and students alike to meet and greet. Participants can catch up with old friends while making new ones. The museum, which opened in 1994, is housed in the 150,000 sq. ft. historic Hangar #1 built in 1939.The museum’s extensive aircraft collection include over four dozen aircraft and space vehicles. A sample of exhibits include the B-1A LancerB-52 Stratofortress, F101B Voodoo , F102A Delta Dagger, F104C Starfighter, F4E Phantom II, F86H Saber Jet, and many other vintage military and general aviation aircraft.

The evening festivities are highlighted by keynote speaker Amelia Rose Earhart. Earhart, aviator adventurer and former News 9 Reporter, circumnavigated the globe in 2014 in partnership with the Wings over the Rockies Museum. She departed on June 26 last year from Oakland, California in a single engine Pilatus PC-12 with her co-pilot, Shane Jordon. On July 11, seventeen stops, 24,300 nautical-miles, 14 countries, and just over 108 flying hours later, they landed back in Oakland without incident. Her route was across the US, then south into the Caribbean, thru northeast Brazil, across the South Atlantic Ocean, then the African continent, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Islands, and the Pacific Ocean before returning to California. Amelia’s message and talk promises to be highly entertaining and informative. Also invited to appear is United Airlines Director of Flight Training Captain Mike McCasky. Captain McCasky will provide an update on United Airlines and plans for the newly announced Denver consolidated training base. All during the evening live feed video reports from Shanksville, PA, the site of the United Flight 93 memorial, are planned to be provided.

It promises to be an awesome event for aviation enthusiasts and I’m hoping they raise a bunch of money for a great charity.  Here’s what you need to do to enter:

1.  Be absolutely sure you can attend on September 11th in Denver.  I purchased the tickets to make sure that 2 people can go be a part of the event.

2.  Leave a comment here in this post.  It can be a quick hello or why you’d like to attend the event.  Maybe you have a memory of that fateful day, of someone who was lost.  Or maybe you know one of the Jason Dahl scholarship recipients.  Feel free to leave as many comments as you like as long as you’re not spamming the thread.

The prize is two tickets to the Night at the Museum Gala.  You’ll be responsible for your own transportation to and from the event.

You have until 11:59pm Thursday, August 13th to enter.  I’ll select winners after that.

If you can’t make the event but want to support the charity, there’s a link where you can donate as little as $1 to support their efforts.

  1. “I was just there!” were my first words as I watched the tragedy of 9/11 unfold. I was in NYC the previous week for business meetings. Included were clients from the lower floors of Tower 1. Little did I know that leaving Saturday on a UA flight out of LGA that this would be my last glimpse of the Twin Towers. Since then I have stood at the NYC Twin Towers Memorial and at the Shanksville National Memorial because I needed to be there to honor those innocent people who lost their lives. It would be my privilege to take my wife to the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Event to honor the flight crews memory, to congratulate the scholarship winners, and to represent your personal support.
