The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length.  On a daily basis, I try to keep track of roughly 100 different blogs that have interesting things for you and I to learn from.  Some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.   This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.  Here’s what I’m reading about today:

Hyatt has added a phenomenal property in Uruguay, and One Mile at a Time has a great breakdown of what you can expect.  I saw this news pop up a couple of days ago and just plum ran out of time to write it up, but I don’t think I could have done a better job detailing it.  The main pieces you need to know:

  • It used to be a Four Seasons
  • A standard room is a 970sf bungalow!
  • It’s a category 5, meaning 20,000 points a night for that bungalow.
  • The pictures look kick-ass

I’ve really grown to love Rome.  And, while I enjoy the way I spend time in Rome, it’s a city that can please lots of different folks.  Jessie on a Journey has some ideas I haven’t tried yet, like wine with a view and a life of crime!  The main points it just go.  Here are some other sightseeing tips I’ve shared in the past.

Rome is an easy jumping off point for so many other places in Italy, especially given low-cost carriers that serve Fiumicino airport.  And, you can use your Starpoints at a gem like the St. Regis.

$6 Entertainment books is a great deal.  They have an assortment of travel coupons, and you can usually find a coupon good for a restaurant or retailer in your local area that more than covers the cost of the book.

Win a free Dreamliner trip from American Airlines.  Thanks, Will Run For Miles!

The Channel Tunnel, linking Britain and France, was shut down due to protesters yesterday, halting train service.  Service is supposed to start again today but I haven’t seen any reports that things have normalized as of yet.
