Another New SPG Promo And A Painful Change For AAdvantage. The Best of the Rest For Saturday, June 20th, 2015

a person holding a sign

The Best of the Rest is my effort to summarize all the travel/miles & points stories that interested me on a daily basis but didn’t have time to write about in length.  On a daily basis, I try to keep track of roughly 100 different blogs that have interesting things for you and I to learn from.  Some are passed along without comment, while I add my analysis to others.   This is your shortcut to find out what’s going on in the travel world without having to read dozens of travel blogs to get all the best info.  Here’s what I’m reading about today:

Another Starwood Preferred Guest promo that appears to be widely targeted.  Points, Miles & Martinis has the scoop on this promo that earns 1,000 bonus points per stay up to a maximum of 5,000 points.  Although I didn’t receive an e-mail I was able to register quickly, which means that I can stack this with the other summer promotion SPG currently has in the marketplace.  And, you may actually be able to triple-dip with the Sheraton Weekends promo coming, though I don’t think we have the T&C for that one yet.

The Best of The Rest

A woman carrying cocaine in her breast implants was arrested at the airport.  As William JLP says in this thread on Milepoint, that’s quite a bust.

$300 fares Philly to SFO and $239 Atlanta to Seattle, courtesy of The Flight Deal.  That second one may be a reasonable fare if you’re trying to stretch to elite status and need a few more miles.

Is the airline responsible for scuffing up your luggage?  Short answer, no.

New York City wants to approve every change that Uber, Lyft and similar services make to their app.  That’s.  Friggin.  Nuts.

The Forward Cabin reports that after September 1st, you won’t be able to redeem AAdvantage miles to fly Hawaiian Airlines between Hawaii and the continental US.  As he notes, this is a bummer for so many families who save miles for their dream trip, with Hawaii being a popular destination for those dreams.

Frankly, this comes as a bit of a surprise to me.  American has lots of flights to Hawaii, so you can still get there.  Assumedly, it was costing AA too much to buy these awards on behalf of their members.  Hawaiian isn’t an alliance partner.  I’d certainly be more surprised by this change if they were.

Why airports pay better than most other employers for entry-level jobs.

Up to 5,000 Marriott Rewards points per Hertz rental.

Finally, View From The Wing points out that United still leads their competitors in one key award category.  He’s absolutely right, and this is a primary reason I believe in diversifying your miles and points.  If you hold one of the Chase credit cards (Sapphire, Ink) that earn Ultimate Rewards points, you can redeem on United, British, Southwest and others to find the best deal.

That’s the Best of the Rest for today.  I’m busy thinking about spring break travel for next year, but it also makes me think about the great travel I have planned this summer.

Where are you traveling this summer?
