35% Discount On Expedia Hotel Booking, 20% Discount On Marriott Gift Cards: Remaining Daily Getaways Announced

a screenshot of a website

Daily Getaways announced their first 3 weeks of offers recently, but they held off on announcing weeks 4 and 5.  It looks like both of those are announced now.

In case you’re not familiar, Daily Getaways are daily deals sponsored by the US Travel Association.  Some are better than others, so you need to think about whether you can take full advantage of the offer before buying.

For the more popular offers, they will sell out quickly, which means being around right when they go on sale each day at 1:00 pm EDT.  Some offers will sell out in hours, some in minutes.  It’s also important to be patient.  If you click shortly after an offer becomes available and it shows sold out, keep trying.  Someone may have an offer in their shopping cart but change their mind or have their computer crash.  When that happens, their bad luck or change of heart can be your good fortune.

Week 4 has a few interesting items:

Daily Getaways

There are a couple of new offers for Universal Orlando and Caesars this year, while Hertz, Busch Gardens and Marriott are largely similar to last year.  Marriott’s prices come down just a smidge and you don’t have to pay with American Express.

I’ll be reading through all of these in more detail, but you can see my notes on last year’s Universal, Caesars, Hertz, Busch Gardens/Sea World and Marriott offers.

Week 5 probably has the most interesting value of the entire slate:

Daily Getaways

The Fairmont and MGM Resorts offers are similar to last year, but what appears to be the final offer is a pretty darn good value.  Expedia is offering up a $1,000 hotel coupon and a 10 month’s worth of their +gold status for $650.  Of course, there are a few lines of fine print:

*Coupons can only be used to book a +VIP Access or Expedia Rate hotel.

*Coupons can only be used once. Any leftover value is void.

*A coupon can only be applied to one hotel room per booking.

*Coupon values don’t apply to taxes or fees.

*Once a coupon is used, it cannot be refunded.

*Coupons can only be used on reservations paid for at time of booking.

I had to look up the details of Gold status with Expedia.  Here’s a screenshot:

Bonus points, room upgrades (at a list of 1400 VIP access hotels) and a dedicated concierge seem to be the Gold benefits, while Blue members get a host of other things, like 2 points per dollar on hotel spend and 1 point per $5 of spend on flights.

I’m not a fan of booking through OTAs, but lots of people find it convenient.  I can’t say I’d put a whole lot of value on the Gold status, but there’s still a 35% discount on a future hotel reservation.  There’s only 50 of these available, so it’ll be a full-out scrum to score one of these.

More details on these deals when we get closer to Week 4 and 5.

  1. With this offer, if you purchase the Marriott cards with a Marriott credit card, do you receive the usual 5 points per dollar?

    1. J, it’s a good question and I couldn’t locate an answer doing some quick research. I do know that when I’ve bought Busch Gardens tickets via Daily Getaways in the past, the charge has been processed by Busch Gardens/Sea World, not Daily Getaways. Not a direct correlation, but the only one I have.

  2. Thanks for the update, I hadn’t seen weeks 4 & 5 yet. While the Expedia deal looks good at first; for me it is a bit of a deal killer that you can only use it in one booking and any left over value disappears. I’m with you on OTA… I rarely use them. My last time trying with Expedia was a disaster: http://singleflyer.com/2015/02/13/why-i-dont-use-expedia/

I’ll probably try and pick up the Hyatt points deal, not sure of anything else.

    1. Alan, I agree that using it for one reservation is a bit of an impediment. That being said, our travel is usually for longer trips so I still feel like I could get $1,000 in value out of this. Just not sure I’ll motivate to chase one, since there are so few and I’m not an OTA fan.
