Hyatt is adding benefits this morning to my favorite status level in all of hotel loyalty. Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond membership is the status I enjoy most, because it allows me to do things like reserve a suite ahead of time for an unbelievable property like the Park Hyatt Paris Place Vendome. Now, they’re adding new benefits:
Guest Of Honor: This benefit will allow you to “gift” your Diamond status to someone else when booking a room for them using the Diamond member’s Hyatt Gold Passport points. This includes benefits like a late check-out, club access and the awesome free breakfast benefit that some properties have.
Savvy Diamond members could kinda, sorta do this before by booking a reservation in their own name and adding their guest as a second person in the room. But, this wasn’t a surefire method to do so and certainly wasn’t formalized. I like seeing this benefit formalized and I suspect there will be a number of Diamond members who will find plenty of use for this. This goes into effect March 1st.
Two Free United Club Passes: Starting March 1st, each Diamond member will receive 2 free one-time use United Club Passes each year. I belong to the United Club, so no specific plus for me personally. But, it’s a good synergy since Chase services both Hyatt and United from a credit card standpoint. The passes do have value for the occasional travel and I’m hoping when they roll them out that they’re not “personalized” so I can use them for family members when I travel with my extended family or to give away to family when they travel.
Free Premium Wi-Fi: Hyatt had already moved to make Wi-Fi free for everyone (that kicks in this weekend). Now, Platinum and Diamond members will get upgraded/premium Wi-Fi where available. I don’t think this will be a benefit at the vast majority of Hyatt Place and Hyatt House properties, since I think for the most part they have one level of connectivity.
