Hyatt Churchill London Not Accepting Reservations Until Further Notice

After the explosion at Hyatt Regency Churchill recently, it was reasonable to expect that the hotel would be impacted.  We’re starting to get a sense that it will be a while before the hotel reopens.

I received a note from reader David H that his company had received notification that seemed to indicate the property would be closed until at least January 1, 2015.

Now, I’ve received a further note from Steve H. indicating that the hotel is closed until further notice:

Early morning on Saturday 22 November, Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, experienced a gas explosion in the hotel’s basement. No guests were injured, but some hotel colleagues sustained injuries, four of whom were treated at area hospitals. One colleague remains hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.

Due to this situation the hotel is currently closed for the foreseeable future and your reservation has regrettably been cancelled.

For Guests With Upcoming Reservations through to 1st February 2015:

Guests may cancel at no charge, including those on the Advance Purchase Rate. The hotel will make every effort where possible to assist Guests with alternative arrangements if requested. We also kindly suggest that you contact your travel planner or agency for assistance as they will have been informed of this situation.

His reservations were for late January, so the offer to cancel at no charge for a property that looks closed through at least February seems a bit redundant.

That being said, I plugged in a bunch of random dates in 2015 and don’t find any availability through the end of the schedule in December, 2015.  Take note for your travel plans that, according to the official word from the hotel, it will be at least February before The Churchill will again be accepting guests.
