A Solid New Tool For Hotel Award Searches

a map of a city

Heard of Travelocity?  Expedia?  Orbitz?  Of course you have.  You’ve likely used one or more to book a trip.  But, if you have a lot of hotel points, you needed to search multiple websites to find award inventory while you were balancing airline ticket prices.  A bit of a pain in the butt.  That’s why I was pretty excited when I saw a new tool from my friend Seth, Hotel Hustle.

The premise behind his new creation is the ability to search award inventory for multiple hotel chains at the same time in a geographical area.  I saw his first post a few days ago and liked the idea, but I was too busy stuffing my face full of turkey on Thanksgiving to spend some time with it.  Then, I saw he updated it with some new features so I decided that was a reasonable kick in the pants to take a look.  I was duly impressed.

I performed a quick search on a destination we had considered for an upcoming trip but ultimately passed on, since I had some research fresh in my head.  The site was intuitive and easy to navigate.  I plugged in my dates and away I went.

The site spit out accurate results that were easy to read for my destination.  It displayed pricing, though I’m not sure what rate the system is programmed to pull.  May have missed that in the details somewhere.  I do have to poke a little bit of fun at Seth for the “Hustle Hotness” factor.  And not just because of the name, but also because of how highly the Fairfield Inn scores.  😛

The most recent update noted that he has plans to add the ability to adjust the price per point at the user level, which I think will be a great plus.  Once Hyatt is included in the matrix this will be a tool I absolutely use on a regular basis.

Seth has a bunch of helpful tools on his website, but this one fits me the best.  I’m likely to pay for his upgraded service as a way to support development of useful tools like this in the future, even though this one is free to all in its current iteration.

  1. HI ED: I signed up for a new account with StayFaster & did a quick search for local Hyatt but was only offered 1 rate, which was the posted standard room rate. Is there a way to get the advanced purchase, AAA or other discount codes on StayFaster?

    1. Maureen, the StayFaster folks have been pretty responsive on a few things I pointed out to them. If you want to e-mail me the dates and property you were looking at I can ask them to figure out why it’s not working. I have seen advance purchase and AAA rates on other Hyatts (most of the test searches I did were on Hyatt properties, shockingly). 🙂
