TSA PreCheck To More Than Double By Year-End

It looks like TSA is getting ready to go through a massive growth phase for PreCheck, expanding it to many corners of the country where it’s not yet present.

There are plenty of folks who decry the TSA and pretty much everything they do. I’ve never been one of those people, though I have had my share of unpleasant experiences traveling in the TSA era. I don’t think everything is perfect by any stretch. But I think they’ve hit their stride in a few areas, most specifically TSA PreCheck.

 Than Double

I was a very early adopter of PreCheck through my elite status at American Airlines. I also enrolled in Global Entry early on and made sure to enroll my entire family, since Global Entry participants also get access to PreCheck.

For those that haven’t experienced it yet, PreCheck is security the way it used to be. Leave your shoes and belt on. Leave your laptop and liquids in your bag. And, generally speaking, a much shorter line. Even though there’s a random element to PreCheck selection for each Flight, I’ve actually qualified for every one of my eligible flights this year. TSA even improved the program earlier this year, providing advance notification of your PreCheck status before each flight.  You’ll also be able to enroll directly in PreCheck for a fee in the near future, though I think that’s a bad idea.

With the improvements I’m thoroughly enjoying PreCheck.  The only problem?  Showing up somewhere like Bob Hope airport earlier this year and not having PreCheck.  With only 40 airports enrolled I ran into my fair share of places that didn’t have it over the last few years.  But, that’s about to change at Bob Hope, and plenty of other places.

So, where else is the TSA expanding to?  Here are the list of 60 airports they’ve added.:

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport
