Easy Arm-Chair Miles: 40 AAdvantage Miles For Magazine Subscriptions

I think one of the toughest things for most people is figuring out how to get started collecting miles and points.  Shopping portals sponsored by the airlines are a valuable tool and they occasionally have outsized opportunities for everyday folks to collect miles.

Right now, the AAdvantage shopping portal is offering 40 miles per dollar spent on magazine subscriptions. It’s double the normal 20 miles per dollar and good through July 31, 2013.

Miles For

It’s not like you’re going to earn millions of miles from such an offer.  But, it’s more about maximizing some of your regular purchases to earn miles.  A $20 yearly magazine subscription earns 800 miles, a $50 subscription yields 2000 miles.

2000 miles is almost 10% of a saver award flight anywhere in the continental US.  Again, not a lot, but if you’re already buying a magazine subscription why not earn miles for that dream vacation?

  1. Yup, but we also all need to be careful not to be lured into spending money on things that we otherwise wouldn’t just by the lure of some points/miles. In my case, I just don’t read that many magazines anymore, mostly get by with web stuff like, well, this blog. So while I did take a quick look, I couldn’t find anything I needed and gave up.

    1. Glenn, I would only advocate magazines for miles if you had an existing subscription (or were looking for a gift for someone that happened to fit this). I’m not a magazine guy myself but my wife is, so we’ve been able to coordinate some of her renewals through sites like this and earn miles for something we were already buying.
